Every Thanksgiving, I see tons of cute outfits all over social media. There are quite a few trends that you can usually count on seeing each year, while many people take the time to wear something completely different than everyone else. I think wearing something that is really popular at the time is always fun, but it’s exciting to wear something unique too! I came up with a list of five cute outfit ideas that fall into the typical trends of Thanksgiving outfits, and five ways to stand out if you want to try something different. Whether you plan to go trendy or unique to Thanksgiving this year, I’ve got some ideas for you!
Neutral/Earth Tones
There is no better time for wearing neutral colors than in the fall. The browns, creams, forest greens, and burnt oranges may look a little drab during summer, but feel inspired when the leaves change and fall. As soon as I saw this plaid dress on Shein’s website, I immediately thought of Thanksgiving. I also love this brown furry jacket that I got for Christmas last year; it’s both neutral and fun!
Bright/Vivid Colors
If you’re not feeling the usual neutral and warm tones, try breaking the tradition this year and dress like rainbow instead! Try searching different color palettes on Pinterest and assembling an outfit to match it. You can also pick one brightly colored item that you love and experiment with other colors to put with it. I wouldn’t have originally thought to put this orange skirt with a green jacket, but the purple shirt was the perfect addition to pull it all together.
Knit Dresses
This one might be the one I see the most around Thanksgiving, and for good reason! You can’t go wrong with a good knit dress. They’re warm, cute, and perfect for the season. I’ve had this one here for a couple years and have worn it to so many events; it never gets old!
Overalls or Patterned Pants
If you’re not feeling a dress or want something a little different, try some overalls or patterned pants instead of a dress. I wore overalls last Thanksgiving and loved the look. Patterned pants are also always fun. Both give a fun and playful vibe that’s perfect for your family event!
Modern Trends
This one is an obvious one! If you aren’t sure what are the current trends right now, check Instagram on Thanksgiving and you’ll be able to see them! If you’re looking for a trendy item to wear this year, try a shacket! They seem to be everywhere right now and are so cute. You could go for a solid color like I have, or go for the very popular plaid shacket! I also assembled this simple, but trendy outfit – a cropped sweater, mom jeans, and white tennis shoes. These are just a couple ideas; you could spend hours researching trends and finding new outfits!
Vintage Inspired
Modern trends are fun for sure, but there is just something special about wearing an outfit that feels right out of another time period. Here, I’m wearing my favorite suspender pants with a turtleneck. Suspender pants and skirts are a worthwhile investment for Thanksgiving or any time – the possibilities for cute outfits are endless! I also put together a vintage-inspired outfit using these plaid pants and a corset vest. You could wear a corset with a long skirt if you really want to go full on renaissance, but I decided on plaid pants with it and loved how it turned out. Whether you use just one vintage inspired piece or go for a full look, the possibilities are truly endless!
Festive Thanksgiving Outfit
I absolutely love to combine a personal fandom with an upcoming holiday. I wrote about this sweatshirt in a previous post and couldn’t resist getting it! Next year I might try to find a Disney-Thanksgiving shirt. If you’d like to go this route for your Thanksgiving outfit, try thinking about something you’re a fan of and checking stores to see what kind of cute things you can find! Or simply check Amazon or Target for some adorable turkey or pumpkin themed clothing. It’s the perfect way to be comfy and fun!
Festive CHRISTMAS Outfit
I’m mostly joking here haha. Everyone has at least one family member that will fight anyone that tries to celebrate Christmas before Thanksgiving. Personally, I start celebrating Christmas on November 1st and just celebrate Thanksgiving alongside it, even if some family fights me for it. If you think your Thanksgiving needs some good family debate, why not join me in making that one family member angry and wear your Christmas outfit? Assuming you’re not that one family member of course!
Whether you decide to go trendy or find something more unique this year, make sure it’s something you feel confident and happy in. Happy Thanksgiving!
